Normalzing The Aging Conversation

This week I had the opportunity to chat with Jack (Jacqueline) Perez of Kuellife.com about normalizing the conversation around women and aging.

I remember when I was a teenager, my parents were in their 40’s, they seemed so old. On my mother’s 50th birthday I announced that I was having my first child. For me, they always seemed to “fit” their age.

Now that I’m on the upswing to 50, I don’t really consider my age. I don’t think that I ever have. Sure, I notice things, changes, but I still focus mainly on what I’m doing with my life, how am I living my purpose. Admittedly, revealing my purpose and reconnecting to my authentic self came from going through an identity crisis when my first-born went to university.

In our conversation, Jack pointed out that in 1900 the average life span for a woman was 51. By the 20’s it started creeping up to 61. That one really hit me, really, it has only been about 100 years that women have been learning to manage menopause.

If you think about it, menopause is a relatively new phase of life that women are learning to navigate.

Is it any wonder that there are more questions than answers about perimenopause and menopause?

What I am noticing is that more and more, women are speaking up, they’re sharing their experiences and empowering others to do the same. We are coming together in the true spirit of the sisterhood. Menopause and empty nest are only the signs of a season ending. Just as the leaves fall from the trees and winter brings a period of hibernation, spring always comes with the promise of warmer days.

Today’s midlife woman is redefining the aging process, they are revealing their purpose and living life on their terms.
